Supporting someone with denture care

Enquiries from families, carers and professionals.

If you are helping another adult, supporting someone in a care setting or making contact as a dentist or other clinician, Signature Dentures can discuss the concern and explain possible next steps.

Who can make first contact?

Family members and supporters

An adult child, relative, friend or other supporter can ask how to begin a conversation about broken, loose or replacement dentures.

Carers and care professionals

People supporting an adult at home or in a care setting can make a general enquiry about a denture concern and ask what information may be needed next.

Dentists and other clinicians

Dental and clinical professionals can contact the clinic to discuss whether a conversation or assessment may be appropriate. Please call before sending any clinical records.

What to include at first contact

  • Your name, role or relationship to the person and the best way to contact you
  • A short, practical description such as a broken denture, a loose or uncomfortable denture, or an enquiry about replacement dentures
  • Whether the person knows about and has agreed to the enquiry, where appropriate
  • Whether a dentist, implant clinician or other professional is already involved

A first conversation helps establish what information or assessment may be appropriate. It does not confirm that a case can be accepted or that a particular treatment is suitable.

Protect the person's privacy

Please do not put medical history, diagnoses, medication details, clinical records or other sensitive health information in the website form. A brief description of the denture issue is enough for initial contact.

If more information is needed, the clinic can explain the appropriate next step. Professionals should call before sharing records or sensitive information.

When enquiring for another adult, involve them and obtain their knowledge and consent where appropriate. Signature Dentures may need to establish who can receive or discuss personal information before continuing.

Assessment and wider dental care

Suitability needs assessment

Individual advice depends on an appropriate assessment and, where relevant, existing dental information. An enquiry alone cannot confirm treatment suitability or an outcome.

A dentist may need to help

Concerns involving natural teeth, gums, pain, swelling, bleeding, injury or unexplained mouth changes need a dentist or another appropriate dental service.

Implant care may need coordination

Questions involving dental implants may require information or input from the person's dentist or implant clinician before appropriate next steps can be identified.
